Nut nutrition is truly fascinating. Most Nuts are grown from trees and are referred to as tree nuts. Peanuts however actually belong to the legume family and are not grown on trees.  Not only are nuts known for being a good source for protein, they are full of healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals and plant sterols. They pack a powerful nutritional punch. Although they offer many benefits to the body, they are best consumed in moderation. You know how they say even to much of a good thing can be bad. Nuts are no exception. 

Due to their dense nature they may also come with a higher calorie count.  When incorporating nuts into a diet, just remember, a little goes a long way. This can propose a challenge since these delightful treats are so tasty that it can be tough to stop ourselves at times. On the other hand since nuts are satiating they can be used to help tide you over between meals. 

Nuts are a vegan staple

You can use nuts to replace dairy and be lactose free by enjoying dairy free milk, dairy free cheese, and dairy free ice cream. When you use a dairy substitute you get all the nut nutrition benefits as well. One of my favorite dairy free dishes is raw cashew ice cream, Dates, and vanilla bean blended in a Vitamix machine. The reason we can use nuts as a dairy replacement is due to the high fat content of nuts. The good news is that these are healthy fats.

You can actually use adding more nuts into your diet as a way to make a metabolic shift from being a sugar burner to an efficient fat burner.  Nuts are high in protein, low in carbs and high in fat, which make nuts an optimal snacking choice. Rather then snack on foods high in carbs and sugars, convert over to Natural Nuts and lots of vegetables. Sometimes you may need to incorporate intermittent fasting to achieve this metabolic shift most effectively. 

The best way to add nuts into your diet is to make sure you are using a variety of different kinds into your diet.  This can be fun as there are so many ways you can add them in.  Some of the nuts known for having the best but nutrition are Macadamia Nuts, Walnuts, Almonds, Pecans and Brazil Nuts.
